The original equipment exhaust manifolds on certain Jeep Wagoneer SUVs and Ram 1500 trucks are equipped with a cylinder deactivation system that shuts down four of the engine's eight cylinders during highway driving to improve fuel economy. This system causes two of the cylinder ports to cool while two remain hot, stressing the exhaust manifold to the point of warping or cracking.
